
Syllabus Guidelines
Consistency is promoted in designing course syllabi and it is requested that each syllabus includes:
Name of the College - West Virginia State Community and Technical College (WVSCTC)
Course title, program, number, and section of the course
Instructors name, email address, office location and address, office hours, phone/fax numbers etc. (May use WVSCTC telephone number 766-3118)
Course Description with prerequisites listed
Required text, research material, web addresses, software and supplies needed for class
List of supplemental readings, Internet links, or other materials to be used in class, lab manuals

Course Learning Outcomes (List what you want students to know and/or be able to do by the end of the class.)
General education learning outcomes appropriate to the course, e.g. writing, technology, or critical thinking.
Assessment Methods (How will you assess what your students have learned /accomplished as listed in # 8 and # 9? A Course Assessment Matrix for recording assessment results is provided.)
Course requirements (papers, exams, quizzes, homework, special assignments, field trips, out of class activities etc.)
Tentative course timetable (with assignments listed as needed)
Class policies and procedures, including grading methods, attendance/tardiness policy (including percentage weight of various components of class work), examinations (method of grading and frequency), make-up policy (for assignments, exams, etc.), policy on plagiarism, etc.
A Student Assessment Form to allow the students to record their grades and assessment results.
